What AI is actually good at

Most people meet AI through a blank box and a blinking cursor, and freeze. So let's start with the useful truth: AI is very good at a small number of things, and knowing which ones saves you hours.

It is good at turning messy words into tidy words. Give it a wall of notes and ask for five bullet points — it will do that well. It is good at first drafts: an email you're dreading, a description you keep rewriting. It is good at explaining something in plainer language than the person who first explained it to you.

It is not a search engine and it is not a calculator. It will sound confident about a fact it made up. So the rule for this whole course is simple: use it for shape and speed, and check anything that has to be exactly right.

Try this now: open your AI tool and paste in the last three messages you sent someone. Ask, "What am I actually asking for here, in one sentence?" You'll see it read your intent back — that is the muscle we build on.
